Student Opportunities

Are you a high school or college student looking for internship or job opportunities with the USGS Alaska Science Center? Below is a list of the student programs that we work with each year:

  • Anchorage School District Gifted Mentorship Program (high school students apply in spring and summer of each year)
  • Virtual Student Federal Service Program (college students apply in July of each year)
  • Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (high school and college students work with USGS through a variety of programs)
  • USGS Summer Fellowship Programs
  • Alaska Pacific University Partnership. A special program for APU students that starts in the summer of each year.
  • Seasonal field and lab assistants. We hire several seasonal positions for summer field work throughout Alaska each year. Announcements for these positions are posted on this web page between December and February.
  • The USGS Alaska Science Center occasionally advertises positions for current students and recent graduates through the Pathways Program. Those opportunities are advertised on this page and on USAJobs.
  • If you would like more information about the information above or want to ask a USGS staff member to visit your school or help judge a science fair, email ascweb@usgs.gov

Volunteer Opportunities

We do bring on volunteers for specific needs but don’t have a general volunteer program at this point. Email us at ascweb@usgs.gov for more information.
