Population Ecology and Habitats of Alaska Landbirds
This program coordinates a cooperative, regional program to monitor population trends of landbirds breeding in northern ecoregions, to investigate population dynamics of landbirds and relationships between the distribution of breeding landbirds and terrestrial habitats at the landscape level.Abstract
The Population Ecology and Habitats of Alaska Landbirds project is conducted by five staff members of the Alaska Science Center and includes a variety of research directions and methods that inform our partners. Current project objectives included: (1) a continuing investigation of viral factors related to the emerging epizootic of Avian Keratin Disorder in forest birds of Alaska and other bird species across the globe, (2) using statistical methods to assess factors responsible for species detectability during point count surveys and (3) summarizing population trends and habitat associations of breeding landbird populations in Alaska by compiling information through Boreal Partners in Flight, on lands within the National Park Service southwestern Alaska region, and from the Alaska Landbird Monitoring Survey (ALMS).
