Description:
Abstract:
This dataset consists of survey data from a longitudinal profile of water surface surveyed June 23-24, 2013 at Exit Creek, a stream draining Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska. The survey was conducted using a total station at multiple instrument locations linked using visual estimates of instrument locations from an orthophoto. The intent of the survey was to provide detailed water surface elevations to compare to a 2012 digital elevation model.
Purpose:
This dataset supports a study of the fluvial and glacial development of the area immediately downstream of Exit Glacier on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Exit Glacier and the associated Exit Creek are within Kenai Fjords National Park, and their changes over time are of interest to park visitors and managers.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy: Northing and Easting are reported to default values (0.000001 ft). Relative accuracy between shots from a single instrument location is considered to be 0.1 ft. Absolute accuracy depends on estimation of instrument location and is considered to be 10-15 ft. Vertical Positional Accuracy: Elevation is reported to default values (0.001 ft) and is considered accurate to 0.1 ft.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Field survey data were collected using a total station. Instrument locations were arbitrary and used arbitrary backsights and datums. Instrument locations were subsequently given coordinates from 2008 lidar data based on visual estimates of their location in the 2012 orthophoto. All points surveyed from each instrument location were adjusted accordingly. A total of five independent instrument locations were established. From each instrument location, points were surveyed at the left edge of the water surface at roughly 100 m intervals from braid plain kilometer 3.6 - 0.2. A land surface point representing the average braid plain surface was surveyed adjacent to each water surface point.
