Description:
Abstract:
This dataset contains two tables of sampling information and size and mass measurements of the Baltic Tellin (Macoma balthica) from sites in Cook Inlet, Alaska, USA, and the Baie de Somme estuary, France.
Purpose:
To better understand environmental factors that support the nonbreeding ecology of Rock Sandpipers (Calidris ptilocnemis) in Cook Inlet, Alaska, we examined the relationship between the length and height of the hinge of the shell and relative masses of flesh in an important prey item, Macoma balthica.

Classification_System_Modifications:
At the time of this writing, some authorities had reclassified Macoma balthica as Limecola balthica. For lack of definitive taxonomic guidance, we retained the genus Macoma in this document, but recognize that the taxonomic status of the species is unresolved.
Taxonomic_Procedures:
Species were identified by skilled observers in the field based on general appearance of shell and benthic infaunal location.
Taxonomic_Completeness:
Taxonomy is completed for all samples. No voucher specimens were collected.
