All values in the data tables have been checked extensively for errors and are considered ready for dissemination. All values are considered within bounds of the study's constraints. Values are left blank when there was no corresponding value, details are described in the entity and attribute section.
No known information is omitted, blank and not applicable ("NA") values are present when the information could not be obtained and/or was not recorded. When present blank and NA values are described in the entity and attribute information section.
Methodology:
Methodology_Type: Field
Methodology_Description:
Fyke nets and beam trawls were used to capture fish. At fyke net stations, fish were counted approximately daily, and up to 50 individuals of each species were measured each day. At beam trawl stations, the absolute number of fish captured was much lower and all fish were identified, counted, and measured for length immediately after capture. More detailed information on the methodology for fyke net stations can be found in the citations and process steps of this methodology section.

Methodology_Description:
Data from 1988-2005 was compiled from a year specific spreadsheets provided by USFWS and was joined with the data from 2017-2019. Attributes were standardized so that data can be compared across all years of the data. The species identification of several fishes has changed over time with taxonomic updates related to continued research based in genetic techniques. Using keys within historical reports, common names and scientific names have been standardized and updated to reflect current taxonomy (see taxonomy modifications for details). See process steps for specific modifications.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Fyke nets were deployed in water approximately 1 m deep and up to 50 m from shore, field crews aimed to check nets once every 24 hours. Beam trawls (1 m or 3 m) were opportunistically deployed in 2017 and 2018 near the fyke net stations. The duration of each net (effort) was recorded at the time of fish collection. For beam trawls, effort reflects the time trawling through the water. For fyke nets effort reflects the time the net spent fishing between emptying each net.
Process_Date: Unknown
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
In most field seasons, up to 50 individuals of each species were measured for length. The fork or total length was measured in millimeters, measured from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail, or to the end of the tail for species without forked tails (see attribute definition for mmLength for more details). All lengths were measured at the time of capture.
Process_Date: Unknown
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
All captured fish were identified to species and counted. Fish that could not be identified to species were identified to family or recorded as "unknown".

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Several common and/or scientific names have changed since this field work was conducted. In processing these data sets, the common and scientific names have been updated to reflect current taxonomy based on the information provided in the historical data sheets and reports. Modifications for Arctic Sand Lance, Rainbow Smelt, and Pacific Capelin are described in the classification system modifications section of this metadata record. Early eras of this work recorded Arctic Char (Salvelinus alpinus), however, it is now recognized that these fish are Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma).

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
In 2003-2005 some original data sheets incorrectly identified KL05 as the site fished. Randy Brown confirmed that KL09 was fished instead of KL05 during those years as described in Wiswar 2005. All records identifying the site as KL05 from 2003-2005 have been changed to site KL09.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
In the catch dataset, the total number of fish caught has been summed for each species and net day if historical data reported values at a finer scale (i.e. for different age classes or net sides) than what was retained for this data release.
