Contributions

This symposium is unique in that it deals specifically with remote sensing applications in Arctic and Antarctic environments. It provides an international forum for the exchange of current applied research in remote sensing and GIS applications for land and resource management, environmental monitoring, mineral exploration and in other fields.

There will be two types of contributions to the symposium available:
1 - Oral presentation
2 - Poster

Abstracts are required for both types of presentations. Full-length papers will be published in the journal Polar Record, subject to satisfactory peer review. Instructions to Authors can be found at http://assets.cambridge.org/POL/POL_ifc.pdf.

All abstracts, presentations and posters will be given in English

Abstracts

Interested contributors should submit an abstract of not more than 500 words, accompanied by the following information:
Paper/poster title
Author(s) name, title, affiliation, mailing address
Proposed presenter(s) Phone, fax and email of author(s)/presenter(s)

Abstracts should be sent electronically, as an unformatted (i.e., no tabs, columns, bolding, etc.) Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or plain text document to ap556@cam.ac.uk by June 15, 2010. If using Microsoft Word, save the document in the ".doc" format, NOT as ".docx". Authors will be notified of acceptance of their contributions by June 30, 2010, and the deadline for registration is August 15, 2010.

Posters

Recommended size of posters is 1 m tall by 2 m long. Posters should be on a single sheet of paper or multiple sheets to fit within this area. Text should be short and to the point (recommended no more than 2000 words) with ample graphics to relay only the most important aspects of the work. Poster authors should be available to answer any questions viewers may have.

Oral Presentations

Oral presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint format and given to the session moderator on a CD-ROM or USB external drive for loading onto the conference laptop. If the presentation is on a USB external drive, it is recommended that the author also have a back-up on a CD-ROM. All presentations should be delivered to the session moderator not later than the break preceding the presentation. Presentations will be given in English. At the present time, authors should plan for a maximum of 20 minutes, with a few minutes allowed for questions. The allotted time may increase to 30 minutes depending on the number of presenters. Please check the symposium Web page in early April for changes to the allotted time.

Full-length papers

Arrangements are currently being made to have the proceedings from this symposium published in the Polar Record. The Polar Record is an international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal publishing results from a wide range of polar research areas. The Polar Record has published proceedings from the 1994 and 2006 symposia. Arrangements for the submission of manuscripts to the Polar Record will be announced at the symposium, although prospective authors should be ready to provide a manuscript at short notice.
