Field Accommodations

The Falkland Islands

Steeple Jason Island house on the Falkland Islands used for albatross research
The Falkland Islands are located off the coast of South America, and are a territory of the United Kingdom. Research on birds and seals throughout the various islands is carried out by the staff and many volunteers of Falklands Conservation. Work includes annual counts of selected gentoo, rockhopper, magellanic, and king penguin populations, in addition to specific studies on black-browed albatross. One of the islands, Steeple Jason, is particularly important because it is home to the largest black-browed albatross breeding colony in the world. The living accommodations on Steeple Jason are quite comfortable, and include a nice modern house, a garage, and even a Land Rover.
