Instructions for Publishing to the Polar Record

Dear CRSS-9 Participant,

Arrangements have been made to have the proceedings from the 9th Circumpolar Remote Sensing Symposium published in the Polar Record. The Polar Record is the Journal of the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge, UK and is an international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal publishing results from a wide range of polar research areas. The Polar Record published proceedings from the 1994 symposium and has kindly offered to publish proceedings from this year’s symposium.

The deadline for manuscript submission will be 30 August 2006 to ensure an early to mid-2007 publication date. Please follow the submission guidelines below:

  1. Manuscripts being submitted for publication will be required to follow guidelines according to the information given by "Instruction to Contributors" using British spelling conventions. It is also recommended that one of the more recent issues of the Polar Record be reviewed for style and content.
  2. The symposium committee chair will be collecting all of the manuscripts and will be coordinating the peer review prior to submission to the Journal.  All correspondence and manuscript copies should be sent to:

    Carl Markon
    U.S. Geological Survey
    Suite 230
    4230 University Drive
    Anchorage, Alaska  99508   USA

  3. markon@usgs.gov
    1.907.786.7023 (voice)
    1.907.786.7036 (fax)

  4. Manuscripts may be sent via email or post.
    • If sent via email, please ensure that 1) the manuscript is in Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect format, 2) the text is double spaced; and 3) the figures and tables are sent as a separate file. Please keep figures to a minimum due to the transfer of graphic files.
    • If sent via post, please send three, double spaced copies along with a soft copy on CD-ROM; figures and tables should follow the main text.
  5. The primary author may submit three potential referees for the peer review process. The suggested referees may be colleagues, but should not include individuals that have worked on similar projects with the authors of the manuscript, nor work in the same institution as the authors.
