Description:
Abstract:
This dataset contains taxonomic information, counts, and lengths of macroinvertebrates collected from rivers in northwest Alaska using drift and kick nets during summer and fall 2015-2019.
Purpose:
These data were collected to examine how landscape dynamics, including permafrost thaw, beaver (Castor canadensis) range expansion, and metal seeps, alter macroinvertebrate communities and modify the structure of lotic food webs across Arctic riverscapes.

Methodology_Description:
Benthic macroinvertebrates were sampled using D-frame kick nets and drift nets (500µm mesh size). Four kicknet samples were collected in riffles and four kicknet samples were collected in runs per headwater stream with collection lasting one minute per sample and encompassing 1.6 m2 area (National Aquatic Monitoring Center, namc-usu.org). Drift nets were deployed in the thalweg and collected for one hour. Water volume was determined by discharge measurements.
