Description:
Abstract:
This data set includes 15-minute interval data on stream temperature from low-order streams and main-stem rivers in the Noatak and Kobuk River valleys in Northwestern Alaska, collected during the summer months. The water temperatures were determined using a HOBO Water Temp Pro v2 (Onset Computer Corporation, Bourne, MA, USA)with ±0.2 °C accuracy. Sensors were place in several locations within each stream as well as in the main river below the tributary junction in order to assess stream thermal state.
Purpose:
These data were collected from streams in catchments that cross a gradient of ground temperatures, ice content, and vegetation in order to assess spatial and temporal variability in stream temperatures to understand fish habitat. This data is part of the Hydro-Ecology of Arctic Thaw (HEAT) project, which is linking the impacts of warming in the Arctic-Boreal transition zone of Alaska to changes in stream hydrology, biogeochemistry, ecosystems, and fish.

Temperature loggers (HOBO Water Temp Pro v2 (Onset Computer Corporation, Bourne, MA, USA) with a 12-bit resolution and ±0.2 °C accuracy) were placed in baths of various temperatures in the laboratory prior to deployment to ensure that the sensor output met the manufacturer's accuracy specifications.
