Abstract:
This dataset contains a table with temperature (°C), raw electrical conductivity (μS/cm), and salinity (psu) measured in Beaufort Sea, Alaska, Lagoons during summers 2017-2019.
Purpose:
These data were collected simultaneously with fish surveys to assess whether water quality variables at the time of fish capture.

Fyke nets were deployed in water approximately 1 m deep and up to 50 m from shore. One or two data loggers were attached to each fyke net at approximately 0.5 m depth. Water temperature and electrical conductivity were recorded at 5-minute intervals using a HOBO Salt Water Conductivity/Salinity Data Logger (U24-002-C, Onset Computer Corporation, Bourne, MA).

Upon retrieving data loggers and downloading the recorded data (date and time, temperature, and conductivity), each row was assigned a corresponding value for station, NetID(s), and NetDay, and was compiled into a single file. Salinity was calculated given the measured water temperature and electrical conductivity using the function gsw_SP_from_C in the gsw package in R. We assumed a pressure of 10.6351 dbar to reflect the 0.5 m depth of the recorders. In summary, the PSS-78 algorithm is used when practical salinity is ≥2; practical salinity is recalculated using a modified version of the Hill et al. 1986 formula when <2. Details can be found in gsw package documentation (Kelley et al. 2021).
