Biology:

Providing earth science and geographic assistance and referrals to the public, private and government sectors.

Geography:

Geographic Science at the USGS Alaska Science Center involves investigations into the use of remote sensing and GIS technologies for characterizing terrestrial ecosystems and land processes in the boreal and arctic regions of the U.S. Many projects support the USGS Global Change Research Program. Research activities include land surface characterization and land remote sensing.

Geology:

Research scientists of the ASC Geology Office conduct objective scientific investigations on a wide variety of geologic topics including mineral and energy resources, earthquake and landslide hazards, earth surface and geologic processes, and mineral/environmental cycling. Much of the work involves geologic mapping, geochemical sampling, and geophysical interpretation. The data and reports provide information to Federal, State, and Native organizations as well as the general public.

ASC Science Portal

The portal is a searchable, web map-based tool to facilitate public and partner access to information on over 160 subjects under USGS study in the Nation’s largest State.

Interdisciplinary Science

The key to understanding complex Alaskan systems lies in understanding the interactions between biological, hydrological, geological and ecosystem processes. An interdisciplinary science strategy was established for assessing and monitoring Alaskan natural science issues. The success of these projects is founded on coordination of multidisciplinary teams of USGS scientists with Federal, State and Local agencies.
